The American Film Institute Board of Trustees selected Shirley MacLaine to receive the 40th AFI Life Achievement Award, the highest honor for a career in film. The award was presented to MacLaine at a gala tribute on Thursday, June 7, 2012 in Los Angeles, CA. TV Land will broadcast the 40th AFI Life Achievement Award tribute on TV Land Sunday, June 24 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT. The event celebrates MacLaine’s extraordinary life and all her endeavors – movies, television, Broadway, author and beyond.

Jessica Brown Findlay is late. But when she finally arrives, the anonymous room in Soho, here in London, becomes inundated with the magical warmth of her presence. She is somewhat puzzling: it is difficult to figure out whether her beauty is the cause or effect of such contagious enthusiasm. The enigma lingers for the entire duration of the encounter.

It is only afterwards, when the impression is settled, that the solution, perhaps more banal than predicted, appears clear: Jessica is an authentic celebration of her life. Her ascent proceeds rapidly. The important role of Lady Sybil Crawley in the successful ITV period drama Downton Abbey and then the film Albatross (2011) opened the road to a cinematographic career no longer just a promising one.

All this after a sudden stop to a completely different profession, that of a classical ballet dancer. And now she is there, on the big screen roller coaster. “As much as the experience of acting may be thrilling, I like to have moments in which my telephone is switched off and no one knows where I am: it also helps me to be a better actress”. The British actress best known for her role as Lady Sybil Crawley in ‘Downton Abbey’ wore a Peter Pilotto Spring 2012 dress.

Her halter dress has a green, blue and gold top with a nude skirt embellished with gold embroidery.

Opting for carefree naturally curly tresses, Jessica styled her look with nude accessories and a gold bracelet.

A pretty petal-pink lip colour provided the finishing touch.

Our GLAMOUR gong marks the end of a phenomenal 12 months for this gorgeous young starlet. Jessica’s turn as feisty wartime nurse Lady Sybil in the much-loved Downton Abbey has helped cement the show as serious Sunday compulsive viewing in the UK – and it seems our State-side cousins have become just as obsessed as us, bestowing a whopping six Emmys and a Golden Globe upon the period drama. Jessica herself has clocked up a stack of prestigious nominations in the last 12 months, including a BAFTA.

GLAMOUR.com highlight of the year: Jessica is set to star in the upcoming Hollywood adaptation of ’80s classic novel Winter’s Tale. The actress will play Beverly Penn opposite Hollywood heavyweights such as Will Smith and Russell Crowe. Not a bad year, huh?

Jessica says: “Tom Hanks said to me ‘You’re Lady Sybil, I Love you,’ and I was like, ‘OH MY GOD! You’re Tom Hanks. That’s what I should be saying to you!’”

Downton Abbey‘s Michelle Dockery won the Editor’s Special gong at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards while her on-screen sister Jessica Findlay-Brown took the Best UK Actress accolade.

It’s still unclear if they will star together in Akiva Goldsman’s “Winter’s Tale”, but Garrett Hedlund and Jessica Brown-Findlay will get to be co-stars after all, as THR reports from Cannes the two young actors will be part of the impressive ensemble cast for comedy-drama “Lullaby.” Amy Adams, Jennifer Hudson, Terrence Howard and Richard Jenkins round out the cast.

The familial drama will center around an estranged son (Hedlund) who learns that his father (Jenkins) has decided to take himself off life support. Acclaimed artist Andrew Levitas will make his directorial debut on the project, with shooting set to begin in June in New York.

Hedlund will be heading to Cannes next week to premiere Walter Salles’ long-gestating adaptation of “On the Road”, and recently wrapped on the Coens’ “Inside Llewyn Davis” opposite Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan. Brown-Findlay is mostly known for her role as Lady Sybil on hit British series “Downton Abbey” and landed the female lead in “Winter’s Tale”, beating out the likes of Lily Collins and Bella Heathcote. Colin Farrell has reportedly been offered the male lead, though nothing official has taken place and Hedlund, along with Aaron Johnson, Luke Evans and Tom Hiddleston remain in the mix.

Jessica is featured in almost every single scene of this film (and she has lots of gorgeous close-ups), so that makes a lot of screen time and tons of stuff to cap. I’ll be adding more screen caps whenever I have any free time.

Though producing pal Brian Grazer recently managed to score some renewed interest in the Dark Tower adaptation, writer / producer Akiva Goldsman isn’t letting the thought that he’ll be polishing that script detract him from finally calling the shots on passion project Winter’s Tale. He’s already reached out to Russell Crowe and Will Smith to take supporting roles and has locked in his female lead, with Jessica Brown Findlay on to star.

Findlay, who appeared in last year’s Albatross, is probably better known these days as Lady Sybil Cawley from Downton Abbey. But she’ll be trading contentious toff types for Noo Yoik attitude, playing a dying young woman who falls for the thief that breaks into her swanky West Side mansion.

Goldsman has adapted the story from Mark Helprin’s 1983 novel, a sprawling narrative that flits between modern-day and 19th century New York. There are also supernatural elements to deal with, as Crowe is in talks to play mob boss / part-demon Pearly Soames.

According to Deadline, Kick Ass’ Aaron Johnson and Tron Legacy’s Garrett Hedlund are the current front-runners to take on the burglar role, and Goldsman is set to start shooting this October.

Many upcoming films that were casting young stars a few months ago have been put on hold, but apparently not Akiva Goldsman’s passion project. According to THR, “A Winter’s Tale”, a time-shifting sci-fi romantic epic will be testing actors in New York next week and actresses on March 12. Back in November, we heard that up for the male lead were Benjamin Walker and Tom Hiddleston, and for the female lead starlets lining up included Elizabeth Olsen, Bella Heathcote, Gabriella Wilde and Sarah Gadon. Now, THR’s new report indicates Heathcote, Hiddleston and Walker are still set to test, and Lily Collins and “Downton Abbey” star Jessica Brown-Findlay will test for the female lead as well. It’s unclear if the previously shortlisted ladies are still in the running.

Mark Helprin’s 1983 novel, on which the movie is based, takes place in a New York City that is markedly different from the island as we know it. It takes place in the 19th Century and follows a man named Peter Lake. A bad childhood forced him to join a gang and become a thief, only to end up estranged from the group and making a mortal enemy of its leader, Pearly Soames. On a house robbery, Peter meets and falls for the terminally ill Beverly Penn. She becomes the catalyst and the force of change in his life. Another major character is a mythical flying white horse, Athansor, who acts as Peter’s guardian. Russell Crowe has committed to playing the role of Soames, along with Will Smith agreeing to cameo as a judge, two strokes of luck (along with a trimmed down budget) that has allowed Warner Bros to allow the project to keep going all the while shutting down everything from “Akira” to “Arthur and Lancelot.” Goldsman wrote the script and will make his directorial debut on the project that he has been trying to get made for at least six years.

Walker himself has become available again to new projects after being a victim of one such shutdown production, Alex Proyas’ biblical epic “Paradise Lost”, which Legendary Pictures pulled the plug on a few weeks ago. Meanwhile, he has committed to starring in HBO movie “Muhammad Ali’s Greatest Fight.” Hiddleston had an incredibly busy 2011 but is relatively free for future projects with only a fall commitment to vampire flick “Only Lovers Left Alive” opposite Mia Wasikowska. Collins, who frequently shows up to test for high profile female roles, also appears to be readily available having only revisionist Shakespearean tale “Rosaline” to film. British thesp Brown Findlay should be even more eager for this opportunity, having only appeared on British TV series and opposite Felicity Jones in British indie “Albatross” thus far and presumably any future seasons of “Downton Abbey” on her plate.
