On the next Downton Abbey
The sun is rising behind Downton Abbey, a great and splendid house in a great and splendid park. So secure does it appear, that it seems as if the way of life it represents will last for another thousand years. It won't.
Downton Abbey – Julian Fellowes, Jessica Brown Findlay and Allen Leech discuss the political issues of the third series
It feels like forever since the unique and fabulous world of the residents of Downton Abbey was on our screens, but fear not, next month see’s the launch of the new series on ITV. Read full story »
DOWNTON Abbey beauty Jessica Brown Findlay certainly did her homework finding out what it was like to be pregnant in the Twenties after discovering that her character Lady Sybil Crawley is expecting a baby. Jessica, 22, who sports a prosthetic bump in the forthcoming series due to be screened this autumn, says:
“It was lovely and I really enjoyed playing pregnant. It was quite an interesting experience and all the dresses were incredibly comfy as the Twenties were a good time to be pregnant. I did quite a lot of historical research and I talked to a couple of members of my family who are midwives. We had a lady come in to give us talks about what it was like to give birth in those days.”
The next series will see Lady Sybil and husband Tom Branson – Downton’s former chauffeur played by Allen Leech – return home for the wedding of her sister Lady Mary and Matthew Crawley.
Jessica, left, adds: “There are birth scenes and labour pains but I can’t say anymore as I don’t want to give away the storyline.”

Downton Abbey returns to our screens next month for a third series and its creator Julian Fellowes has promised yet another – but will series four feature Lady Sybil Crawley?
Lady Sybil, who married chauffeur Tom Branson in series two, is expecting a baby in the next instalments of the ITV costume drama.
But Jessica Brown Findlay, 22, who plays the Earl’s rebel daughter, heads to New York next month to star with Russell Crowe, Colin Farrell and Will Smith in Winter’s Tale – her first major film role – and may not return.
‘She’s trying to find a New York apartment and plans to stay there until at least December,’ says a source. ‘She’s keeping her cards close to her chest about her future on Downton.’ Read full story »

She’s usually seen in period dress portraying Lady Sybil in Downton Abbey.
But Jessica Brown Findlay has undergone a dramatic makeover appearing on the cover of Love magazine.
The 22-year-old actress appears dressed in an ethereal style sporting messy hair embellished with flowers, pale skin, smokey eyes and dark red lips.
Jessica smoulders on the cover dressed in a plunging crumpled dress with her incandescent skin glowing in the light.
The shoot, styled by LOVE Editor-in-chief Katie Grand, is a far cry from the primped and proper character Jessica famously portrays.
After the otherworldly look is also a far cry from her usual English rose style in real life.
Jessica is no stranger to sporting a dark and mysterious look and in February she appeared in a haunting series of snaps for Dominic Jones jewellery.
Brown Findlay started her career as a ballet dancer, training with the National Youth Ballet and the Associates of the Royal Ballet.
When she was 15, she was invited to dance with the Kirov at the Royal Opera House for a summer season.
During her final two years of school she had three operations on her ankles. The last one went wrong and when Brown Findlay woke up from the anaesthetic, she was told she would never dance again.
Not one to be deterred, the budding artist applied to St Martin’s in London and got onto their highly regarded Fine Art course.

Jessica Brown Findlay is late. But when she finally arrives, the anonymous room in Soho, here in London, becomes inundated with the magical warmth of her presence. She is somewhat puzzling: it is difficult to figure out whether her beauty is the cause or effect of such contagious enthusiasm. The enigma lingers for the entire duration of the encounter.
It is only afterwards, when the impression is settled, that the solution, perhaps more banal than predicted, appears clear: Jessica is an authentic celebration of her life. Her ascent proceeds rapidly. The important role of Lady Sybil Crawley in the successful ITV period drama Downton Abbey and then the film Albatross (2011) opened the road to a cinematographic career no longer just a promising one.
All this after a sudden stop to a completely different profession, that of a classical ballet dancer. And now she is there, on the big screen roller coaster. “As much as the experience of acting may be thrilling, I like to have moments in which my telephone is switched off and no one knows where I am: it also helps me to be a better actress”. These are words that reveal a maturity that one would not expect from a twenty-year-old, the same that is revealed in the relationship she has with her own body, and not only…
“Now I have a grown-up attitude with regards to physical and mental health. I love the softness of my figure. Doing sport is of course fundamental to have a healthy body. But nothing conventional, however: only a bit of Bikram yoga, that calms me and helps me concentrate”.
The British actress best known for her role as Lady Sybil Crawley in ‘Downton Abbey’ wore a Peter Pilotto Spring 2012 dress.
Her halter dress has a green, blue and gold top with a nude skirt embellished with gold embroidery.
Opting for carefree naturally curly tresses, Jessica styled her look with nude accessories and a gold bracelet.
A pretty petal-pink lip colour provided the finishing touch.

Our GLAMOUR gong marks the end of a phenomenal 12 months for this gorgeous young starlet. Jessica’s turn as feisty wartime nurse Lady Sybil in the much-loved Downton Abbey has helped cement the show as serious Sunday compulsive viewing in the UK – and it seems our State-side cousins have become just as obsessed as us, bestowing a whopping six Emmys and a Golden Globe upon the period drama. Jessica herself has clocked up a stack of prestigious nominations in the last 12 months, including a BAFTA.
GLAMOUR.com highlight of the year: Jessica is set to star in the upcoming Hollywood adaptation of ’80s classic novel Winter’s Tale. The actress will play Beverly Penn opposite Hollywood heavyweights such as Will Smith and Russell Crowe. Not a bad year, huh?
Jessica says: “Tom Hanks said to me ‘You’re Lady Sybil, I Love you,’ and I was like, ‘OH MY GOD! You’re Tom Hanks. That’s what I should be saying to you!’”
Thanks to my dear friend Nicole.
